After all the recent fine form, it was inevitable that Stur would finally come up against a tougher test sooner or later. And on a warm Wednesday evening they were duly tested by the current league champions, who themselves are well clear at the top.

Sam Goodwin missed out on this fixture through suspension and captain Darrell Williams was welcomed back after missing the Parley game.

The game began quickly and was end to end. Hamworthy looked up for the game and were bringing the game to Stur in the early exchanges, moving the ball from left to right and showing good control in possession. Conversely, the home side's attacking threat was also clear to see, particularly with the pace down the flanks and in behind the Hamworthy defence.

Despite the good football showed by both sides, there was little in the way of clear cut chances until the half hour mark. Notley for Ham Rec saw Shear off his line from an audacious position and struck a cute lob which looked to have beaten the Stur keeper all ends up. However, somehow the Stur stopper pulled off a fantastic save to deny the league leaders.

After further away pressure, Stur showed their threat with a swift counter-attacking move which resulted in a Williams cross bouncing off the bar. Half time 0-0.

The second half was similar with both teams moving forward with attractive football without making clear chances.

Despite Hamworthy's dominance in possession, it was Stur who proved to be the more effective in front of goal. A Manuel corner was not cleared by the Rec defence and Geddes backheeled the ball towards the goal. It cannoned back off the bar only for Wood to volley home from 5 yards out to the delight of all those involved with the home team. 1-0.

Almost immediately afterwards, Stur were shocked into action when a Hamworthy forward drove into the box down the byline and crossed. Fortunately there was nobody on hand to convert the chance and the Stur net went unscathed.

From here it was a case of a strong rearguard action, with Stur holding tight through the impending gloom of night. The last action of the game saw a Hamworthy penalty appeal turned down.

The game ended and Stur continued their run to 7 wins from 7. This was a real statement to the rest of the league and the hope would be that the run can continue for the rest of the season.
