A goal from Luke Geddes was not enough to save Stur from a home defeat at the
hands of high flying Weymouth.
The visitors took the lead after five minutes when a cross into the Stur box was
only half cleared and the ball fell to a Weymouth forward who lashed the ball
past Doug Shear.
The home side came back strongly and thir efforts were rewarded when Scott
Thomas got to the bye line and cut the ball back for Luke Geddes who turned a
header in at the near post.
Both sides were committed to attack and play swung from end to end. Stur should
have taken the lead when first Thomas then Manuel went through on goal but both
saw their efforts saved by the Weymouth keeper.
Weymouth took the lead when the Stur defence failed to cut out a ball across the
six yard box and forward was left with a simple tap in.
HT: 1-2
The second half continued where the first had left off. Dan Manual made space
and fired in a first time shot which was parried by the Weymouth keeper. Dan
Neville then had to make a last ditch tackle to rescue the situation when a
Weymouth forward looked to go through on goal.
As full time approached the home side began to push everything forward in the
search for an equaliser. It almost came right at the death when after a
desperate goal mouth scramble a Geddes shot was blocked. The ball fell to Manuel
who looked certain to score but the ball was deflected onto the inside of the
post and the rebound fell into the arms of the prone Weymouth keeper. |
