Stur's title hopes took a huge blow with this loss. A
defeat at home to a side who were comprehensively beaten 6-1 on their own
patch earlier this season - and who were hammered 11-3 by title rivals
Blandford Sports - is difficult to explain.
Some credit must be given to Stickland, who played well and
were good value for their win, but really Stur only have themselves to blame.
They didn't start to play until they went two goals down after an hour. In spite
of laying siege to the Stickland goal for the last 30 minutes they had only an
injury time strike from Joe Wood to show for their efforts. Victory over the
Antelope in the final game of the season is now essential. Even that may not be
enough as it could well be decided on goal difference with Blandford having the
advantage of playing their last game of the season knowing exactly what they
need to do. |
