Flying high from a good win last week away to title contenders the Antelope Inn, the reserves were looking to follow up with another 3 points against league strugglers Wichampton. Some changes to the side were made from the team that beat Antelope. Richard Love came in at centre half and the Geddes brothers made a return to right side of the pitch. Changes were also made in midfield and up front with Tom Rudd starting on the left wing and Ryan Ambler coming in to partner Jones.

The game got underway with Stur facing into the bright sunshine for the first half and looked to be the team who were far more up for the game. The first goal of the game came after some good work on the left wing by Rudd and a speculative long range effort was flapped at by the visiting keeper giving Stur a deserved lead. It didn't take long for the next goal to come and once again it was good work down the left side allowing Dave Johnson to cut back and allow Rudd a simple finish for his second of the game 2-0.

With Stur seemingly in control concentration lapsed allowing a goal kick to bounce in the centre of the field catching the defence on their heels and unable to recover in time. The Witchampton striker took his first opportunity of the game and finished well to make it 2-1. After this lapse of concentration Stur looked to be slightly rattled and the visiting side seemed to start pushing forward more bringing out some better defending from a tightened up back line. With a stronger platform to play from the midfield started to take control of the game and with Jones causing havoc with his constant running up front a goal seemed inevitable. A run from Miller from left back found him in the oppositions penalty area and was able to square the ball for Jones to finish giving him a deserved goal for all his running, 3-1. The half time whistle went and Stur went in the deserving leaders.

The second half got underway with Stur looking to start where they left off and put the game to rest and increase goal difference which might be vital at the end of the year. Good work in the midfield again allowed chances to be made and one was soon converted with Jones setting up Ambler to finish for 4-1. Still pushing forward Stur went in search of their 5th and when Jones was raped in the box a penalty was awarded. Erkan managed to keep the ball away from Rudd who was chasing his hatrick and finished well (even if the keeper was a bit close for comfort). With a 5-1 lead Stur began to relax a little and their forward play became slightly sloppy with several chances going to waste.

Credit was due to the visitors however who pushed forward and were awarded a free kick just outside the area. Lax Stur defending and the inability to follow runners and challenge in the air allowed Witchampton to grab an easy goal. This seemed to spur the away team on and the home team seemed to be chasing the game all of a sudden. After a Witchamton attack was thwarted at the expense of a corner the visitors again exposed Sturs weakness in the air allowing yet another easily avoidable goal to be scored, 5-3.

After this Stur brought on Logan who helped to stem the attacks of the visitors by holding up the ball well allowing Stur to get out of their own half and creating more chances for the home side. Chances were again wasted and at the final whistle Stur went away with 3 points but missed out on what could have easily been a far better goal count. However all in all a win is a win and can be built on again next week.

Special mention should also go out to Jack Geddes for his celebratory exploits in Toko a warm hand of applause indeed!
