Blandford took the lead in bizarre fashion in the second minute when an attempted clearance from Bird hit Elliot on the back, ricocheted off a Blandford player and fell invitingly to a Blandford forward who was standing unmarked on the penalty spot and had time to pick his spot before slotting past Maitland.

Stur were shaken by the early set back and took some time to get to grips with the game. Blandford attempted to take advantage but the Stur defence with Maitland in commanding form stood firm.

Stur gradually worked their way into the game and began to take the initiative. The Blandford goal led a charmed life, but the visitors looked dangerous on the break and Maitland had to react sharply to save at the feet of a Blandford forward. The Stur pressure paid off after 30 minutes when the Blandford keeper fumbled a shot and Williams fired the ball into an unguarded net. The home side took the lead five minutes later when Humphrey headed home a Jackson free kick. Blandford were rattled and they were down to ten men just before half time when a player hit out at Henson and was sent off.

Stur extended their lead ten minutes after half time when a left wing corner was smashed home by Bird. The traffic was all one way after this and it was a case of damage limitation for Blandford. The inevitable fourth was scored by Humphrey on the hour mark before Williams completed the rout when he fired home his second of the game in the 65th minute.
