Stur star man: Darrell Williams

Stur produced a battling display to take a point from an entertaining game at the Avenue Stadium.

Stur had the better of the opening exchanges and the early pressure paid off in the 15th minute when a Dorchester defender handled a Sam Mason cross and the referee pointed to the spot. Darrell Williams confidently slotted the penalty into the bottom corner.

Stur continued to have the better of things, but Dorchester had plenty of pace throughout the side and were always dangerous on the break. The equalising goal came ten minutes before the break when Dorchester broke quickly from defence. The ball was cut back from the bye line and ricocheted from the shins of an attacker and into the bottom corner of the net.

Dorchester began to take the initiative as half time approached, but normal service was resumed after the break. In the absence of the influential Ross Humphrey, Phil Sweetland and Graham Duff were controlling the midfield and Stur dominated the game for long periods. Several chances went begging. Mark Henson fired wide from a narrow angle, Darrell Williams headed over the bar from close range and Rob Morley shot wide from the edge of the box.

John Elliot and Mark Henson were both forced off through injury, but the general flow of the game was still towards the Dorchester goal. In spite of the territorial advantage enjoyed by Stur, Dorchester passed the ball quickly and accurately when given the chance to do so and continued to look very dangerous on the break. The Dorchester players seemed to sense that Stur were tiring and began to push forward towards the end of the game, but to no avail. Final score 1-1.
