Stur started the game brightly and created plenty of early chances but a combination of poor finishing and inspired goalkeeping kept the Hamworthy goal intact.

Stur paid the price for their profligacy when Rigler showed the Stur forwards how to finish when he latched onto a loose ball and advanced into the area before firing past Maitland.

Stur were knocked out of their stride for a short time and Hamworthy began to apply a bit of pressure, but Stur were still dangerous and wasted two golden chances to equalise. Yet again, Stur paid dearly for their wastefulness in front of goal when Hamworthy extended their lead on the stroke of half time.

Stur started the second half looking determined to force their way back into the game, but the game was over as a contest when Hamworthy scored their third on the hour.

To their credit, the Stur players did not lie down and fought on until the final whistle, but Hamworthy sat back and dealt comfortably with everything a tiring Stur side could conjure up. Indeed, Hamworthy were hitting on the break and looked much more likely to extend their lead than Stur did of reducing the deficit.

The three goal margin flattered Hamworthy and was certainly harsh on Stur. The real difference between the two sides was the efficiency of the Hamworthy finishing. A harsh lesson, but a lesson which Stur would do well to learn.
