Marshall moved up to 9th place in the DPL with a deserved win at Churchill Close.

The match started slowly with both sides struggling to adjust to the windy conditions.  Maitland was the first keeper to be tested, producing an excellent save after 15 minutes.  A Newton midfield player struck a firm shot from long range, which was destined for the corner of the net, until Maitland sprung over to his right to tip the ball around the post.  The resulting corner was then cleared.

Not long after, Newton had a penalty appeal turned down, after Gage tangled with an opposing forward in the box.  On another day, this would have been awarded.  Stur had a lucky escape.

After 25, the home side were forced into an early substitution with Jon Elliot replacing Sweetland, due to illness.

Then the break through.  After good build up play from the men in green, Johnson laid the ball to Hounsell who beat his man brilliantly and blasted the ball into the top corner.  The keeper had no chance.

Marshall dominated the remainder of the half as they went in search of more goals, but were not able to create any clear chances and extend their lead.

Half time.

The men in green started quickly, applying early pressure as they looked to finish the game and take the 3 points.

The best of the chances fell to the Marshalls’ attacking duo of Henson and Johnson.  Henson created a yard of space by tuning his man well, but his shot was well saved and Johnson then later fired wide from a tight angle.

The second half was not all one way traffic with Stur Newton attacking directly and bombarding the Marshall goal with crosses and long throws.  However Revell, Bird, Mole and McNally were always on hand to clear any dangerous crosses or block any goal bound efforts.

Bowmer then brought on Pathak for the tiring Gage after 75 minutes and moved Henson to a midfield role to protect the lead.  Marshall hung on to claim their 5th league win of the season.

Star man was awarded to Hounsell, but could have easily been Maitland, Revell, McNally or Mole as they were all outstanding.

Final score 1-0.
