Goals:
Stur:
Jack Farrow, John Elliot
and Luke Geddes.
The first half started in an open
fashion and slightly against the run of play, Stur scored; a driving run from
Jack Farrow and a strong low shot which was too strong for the goalkeeper to
hold resulted in a simple but well-placed tap-in for Luke Geddes.
However Okeford immediately hit back
after a slight hesitation from Trev Walker in the Stur goal and poor defensive
organisation.
Despite this, Stur continued to play
flowing football and look for goals. They were nearly rewarded when a Will Gage
free-kick came back off the crossbar only for Scott Thomas to blaze over from
close range. However moments later, a flowing midfield move beginning with
Gareth Thomas taking on a man and passing to Will Gage to take on another man
and slot through a ball for Jon Elliot to drive through and power home.
Again poor defensive organisation
let the Stur hard work down and the same striker was able to pull away on his
own and make the scores level once more. Half time 2-2.
A bright first half seemed to desert
Stur in the second and a lacklustre performance in comparison with the first
half ensued against the league chasers Okeford.
Early on the Okeford striker bagged
his hat-trick with a cutely timed lob and Stur seemed to chase the ball for
large periods of time, showing plenty of effort especially amongst the younger
players, something which certainly pleased the management duo of Julian Flower
and Dave Bowmer. Again ill discipline cost Stur again and at 4-2 an uphill
struggle was about to commence.
The heart and effort shown during
this period was very encouraging as Stur did their utmost to battle back into
the game Chances were being created and with about 10 minutes to go a Will Gage
free-kick again troubled the goalkeeper who saved onto the far post only for a
scramble to end in Jack Farrow tapping in.
Although plenty of effort was put in
towards the end of the game, a chance could not be created. Full time
4-3.
