CommentsAs newcomers to the village (3 years in June), 2006-7 has been the first season we have been able to watch the first team regularly. We managed most of the home games and about half of the away games.
We would just like to say how much we have enjoyed it. The team has always tried to play football and has been a pleasure to watch. The poor misguided fools who pay so much money to watch Premiership and Football League matches when they can watch teams like ours without all the attendant aggro don’t know what they are missing. In my playing days (many years ago) grass roots football was not pleasant to watch. Anyone showing any skill on the ball was soon kicked to pieces. Thanks to the rule changes since then, particularly the tackle from behind, it is now possible to play skilful football without fear of GBH and, in my opinion, Stur FC has been one of the most attractive sides in the league.
Having had such a successful first season in the DPL I suppose we are now, in theory, facing the classic difficult second season. But I don’t think we will. I can recall a number of matches we lost which we should have won but very few (none, actually) which we won that we didn’t deserve to. If we remind ourselves that the game isn’t over until it’s over we could even improve on this season’s creditable 7th place.
Our congratulations and thanks to the team and the “boot room” for an excellent season.
