Sunday 9th March
at 2.00pm on Churchill Close Sturminster Marshall saw the kick off of the Dorset
Mini Soccer League section 3 game between league leaders Sturminster Marshall
Youth under 10’s and struggling Poole Borough. A point from the game would be
enough to see Sturminster clinch the title with a game to spare.
Sturminster were ready and
fired up for the game and started from the kick off with a fine attacking move
that ended with number 11 Graham finding the back of the net to open the scoring
inside the first minute. A second goal was added minutes later by number 5
Oliver after he rounded two defenders and nutmeged the goal keeper. A period of
play then followed that saw wave after wave of attack on the Poole Borough goal.
The score line was only not increased due to some fine goal keeping and a strong
post and crossbar that took several powerful knocks none more so than Jay fine
free kick from outside the area. Half way through the half saw a tactical change
from Sturminster manager Merrick Smith as he added substitute Ryan to the
attack. Ryan proceeded to net a first half hat trick in only 10 minutes of being
on the field. The last of these goals was quite possibly the goal of the season
when the ball was played out to Brad on the left wing by Sturminster captain
Harry from inside his own half. Brad charged down the line out pacing 2
defenders before centring a perfect cross to the on coming Ryan who met the ball
full on the volley. The ball rocketed past a helpless keeper into the net. Jonny
added a sixth to tack them into half time.
Sturminster started the
second half as they had finished the first and Harry fired in a shot from the
halfway line. They then added a further 2 goals from Jay Hijazi and an own goal
that got deflected in at the front post by an unlucky Poole Borough defender
direct from a corner kick by Harry.
The score now stood at 11 –
0 and Sturminster now had only one mission left to get a twelfth goal that would
see them record 100 goals for the season but time and the Poole Borough keeper
were against them so the elusive goal will have to be sought in next weeks home
match with second place Heathland High Flyers.
Well done to the players
and staff at Sturminster Marshall on there success.
